My reflections on the Malacca trip: It was one fun-filled trip alright! For the first time in my life, I saw the real rubber tree with my very own eyes and watch how rubber was processed. We also watched the silat--- a type of Malaysian defense dance or something. I can't remember what it is really called- my memory is getting poorer each passing day. I also tried batik painting, which is my favorite activity of the two days. Although my painting wasn't very nice, I enjoyed the process tremendously. I also enjoyed the food there very much, but I didn't finish it. The sights there are also very nice. I enjoyed the building that is without a roof or something(again, I forgot!) but I got a very creepy feeling as I saw the tombstones. It is really a pity that so many of the historical sites are destroyed. In all, I feel that the trip was way too short for me and the trip had been the best trip I ever had.=D Tan Li Ting

hey hello=)! hmm.. i enjoyed the trip to Malacca very much as it was fun and we get to be with our friends throughout the whole journey. i've learnt alot of things like the history of malacca, what kind of plants have what purposes and most importantly, learning how to be more independent. The children studying in the Malay school are very friendly and sociable. the food there was very nice, but we did not manage to clear it all off as it was really too much. we also went to the malay kampong too and i've learn how to spin a top, different ways of wearing a saree.(whatever, i don't know how to spell!)However, the trip was too short. i just wish that there will be more time for shopping and visit more places!singwei

Malacca Trip Reflections ----- 10.44pm -----Moon shining brightly <----too bored =p
I think that the trip is fun, but......it is too short. Two days one night, that is surely not enough for me. But i still think that this trip is educating and enjoyable after all. Hope there will a second trip, but i doubt that, since we are leaving very soon. I like the batik painting most. =D But mine is destroyed because it came in contact with water. D= I threw it away anyway. =P The food there is quite nice, but the truth is....my group didn't even finish ALL even once. X That's a very sad thing. The food is seriously too much. I have a wonderful time there.....( Except on the bus where me and Dawn are shouting near Mrs Chiam about something that we shouldn't have even said) .__________. Well... I think that's all i will have to say. Good Night. *Yawn*

ellos. =D this is edlyn. =) haha. here's wad i think of the malacca trip. =)
all i thought of malacca was, hey this place looks so old. but after i found outabout its history, i find it an interesting place with wonderful histories. the site i like best is the hill(i don't know what it's called) as it is so high above ground and the view of malacca was simply wonderful. and it's history in the tower itself is meaningful. i like the food there and the warm smiles of the people there. the bayview hotel was a wonderful place to stay over and has a great view too. i really loved this malacca trip and send my best regards to the next batch of pupils going to malacca. they would really enjoy this trip. and wow. their traditional houses were so traditionally built. i'm not saying it looks old, but it is really special and has its own unique style. i really envy the people who built those traditional malay houses. it's a wonderful sight and all its walls are painted brightly. there was a reason behind it and i cannot remember its full content, but mainly because the malay think that the brighter your house is, the more happiness your family will have. the places that we've gone to are all very interesting and are worth a visit. =D that's all. thanks. bye. =)

Yay! ♥
The trip is quite enjoyable , although i expected it to be boring.
I enjoyed the Batik Painting , as it does not have any rules , and you can paint it how you want it.
Edlyn painting was damn nice , though
i'm too lazy to post the pic online. She also got praised by that local artist there.
Edddlyn pro
righht. :x
And when we were walking through the
Kampung , although it was tiring and hot, it's quite meaningful. The people there lived simply , unlike Singaporeans, living a busy life style.
Andand , i got to know how rubber is made. It stinks though. -.-
Andandand, we're really fortunate to be in Singapore . Teachers told me that, and I know, but
i didn't really understand it. When i went to Malacca, I observed that people there were not as wealthy , and the children there, i doubt they even know what's a
PSP. So , we should be
appreciative ,and be grateful for what we have. We when to a malay school ,and they were really friendly. They smiled and waved to us , and ,well their culture is very different from Singapore. They were really creative, they painted tyres with bright colours in replacement of flower pots.
BUT THE MOST ENJOYABLE THING IS, camping together with Angie &
Edlyn.
We bathed, and then chatted , picnic-ed, but
Edlyn slept at 2330 . :s
And me & angie camped till 0230. }: But we got up earlier than Edlyn. HEE.
I wanna go back there again. :D

I enjoyed the trip to Malacca as it was fun and meaningful. The activity that I liked best is the Batik Painting. We can unleash our creativity and test our skills of art. I had a great time painting my work. After the city tour, I learnt more about history of Malacca and I also bought many souvenirs for my family. At the Kampong, I watched the top-spinning and the Malay type of fighting. Then, we saw as the tourguilde demostrated how rubber tapping was done. We also saw how he made the rubber into the rubber sheets. Next, we toured around the village and I saw many types of plants which had many uses like curing diseases. We entered a Malay traditional house to learn more about the Malay cultual.
Second day after a good rest at the hotel, we headed to a school at Yan Peng. The pupils were very polite and they welcomed us by waving their hands at us. The school was very big and beautiful. There was a performance put up by the students there. The performance was about Malay Traditional Dance. I enjoyed it very much.
It was a memorable trip to Malacca.

This malacca trip was very educational and fun. Unfortunately, two days one night was too short, we could have visited more tourist attractions and gain more knowledge. Some of the places we went were not new to me, but then the guide told me more about that place, so I think that the guide was very knowlegde. I think that kampong indah was a very traditional place. The traditional houses there were quite beautiful. The food there were not much to my liking, so I 'could not' eat there. I hope that there would be another chance to visit another country toghether as a class again.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!AMAZING!!!!I enjoyed the trip!getting lots of souveniers for myself and "reunited" with our class.I slept at 12 am while playing poker cards with my room mates. The most exiting thing is seeing the spinning top expert that performed for us.It is a rare opportunity as most people do not really know how to spin tops in S'pore. The historical building also amazed me.I can't think of that "no roof" building(forgot the name) standing for so long through the war.the batik painting also stained my hands for a SHORT while and i have to eat dinner with it as at the kampong, they do not have soap for me to clean it.2 day 1 night malacca trip is too SHORT for me!!!!!:) Hong Wei :)

okay. i know what to do now. Here is my reflections:The Malacca trip was not only enriching my post-psle days, it also brought me to understand lots of things. Like how fortunate I really am... The batik painting was certainly the activity i enjoyed the most, like many others. I'm new to it, and thus evrything seems really fresh to me. Having to bring home our masterpiece was great satisfaction to me, to see that I can bring home something that I painted myself during this short trip! Also, having to chew the bubble gums as and when we wanted was simply superb! Malacca people who are living in Kampongs are really creative. It proved to me that, even without a fast-forward and mordern environment, people living in more backwards environment can still be as innovative, as creative as the urban people!Cosmopolitans like us, always rush through the day without sitting down and slowly think about what we really are living for. However, the people in Malacca, with their slow and steady lifestyle, can relax and think through the day with a clear mind. In that way, they are much fortunate than us. Still, we should be contented. Electronic devices being invented let us do work easier, while people living in kampongs can't enjoy that! In all, this trip rocks. :)Yi Xuan♥

Hi all!
I really luvvvv the malacca trip. I bet that it is a wish of all of us that the trip could be extended....
It is indeed great pity that the trip only lasted for two days and one night, which means that we can only have fun and create chaos in the hotel for one night.
However, through this trip, I have learnt many things despite the short period of time. For example, we learnt how to cherish what we have and also learnt how to do batik painting.
I believe that the activity that i liked the most is batik painting. Although my art piece is ugly, but at least i had a great time painting the base piece. There was a bit of confusion while doing the batik painting at first but after painting for a period of time, the process became smooth.
I have to agree with miss tan ting fang aka frangistan that the best meal we had was at the peranakan restaurant. The food there was delicious and as a condiment to the food, the jokes that we shared(not to specify what it is about as all of you will laugh your heads off!) was simply laugh-contagious! However, the lunch of the second day was not bad either. Our table had a lot of leftovers and we played 终极密码. I was simply so so so unlucky as i lost three times and was forced to eat 2 prawns, vegetables and..... i forgotten.
I really hope that the trip could be a longer one...............................................

Firstly, i just want tot say that this trip is just GREAT!!!The activity i enjoyed most was Batik Painting, because we can unleash our CREATIVITY!Painting on a pieces of cloth wasn't really an easy task, i have to control the flow of the paint, preventing the paint from flowing in all directions which will cause CHAOS!!!Erm... about the meals, i enjoyed most eating at the peranakan restaurant. Not only was the food nice there, my friends and i had a great time laughing our heads off with jokes that were really HILARIOUS!!!The educational part was when we learnt how rubber sheets(solid) were made from latex!(liquid)It was really fascinating and quite dirty while watching our tour guide squeezing white substance out of the "white tofu" (coagulated rubber)In conclusion, this was indeed a educational and fun trip, i would be glad to return to Malacca if i do have a chance!!! tingfangxoxoxoxo

Hey everyone! Here's what I think about the Malacca trip...Firstly, the Bathik Painting. It's wonderful, I tell you. They did the base designs for us so all we had to do is just simply fill in bright colours of our imagination and taa-daa! You get your own Bathik painting. It was great fun. I'm sure most of us would most certainly have enjoyed it. Even if you don't, I do. I would most likely enjoy it even more if we get to make our own designs, because we get to bring it home. Even still, with the regrets, I think it was one of the things I enjoyed.Secondly, the Kampong Indah Tour.It was really nice, very different from my grandparents' house. They live in a Kampong too, but apparently theirs is more modern than the one we went to check out. It's altogether a different kind of feeling, where you feel you are actually brought closer to Mother Nature. We got to see many cool stuff that we couldn't see in Singapore. For example, Kampong chickens not kept in their cages(that's a cool sight), 2 chubby irresistably cute kittens, waiting fot your cuddle. Also the Sari wearing and the Ketupat making. Honestly, you don't see that frequently in Singapore, do you? Not to mention, their creative and interesting ways of planting plants. They use old tires as flower pots. Maybe we should recommend this idea to our mothers, eh? The plants over there are also very interesting. They grow sweet potatoes, bamboos, etc. Many others. Take a look at the pictures! Last but not least, the bridal thrones and rooms and gifts. Plus their entertainment(games). Although the bridal room was small, it was indeed fascinating. Somewhat very different from the Chinese. The way of their moving house is actually weird yet fascinating. To us, moving house is actually packing our belongings and moving to another house, but to them however, moving house means moving the whole huge entire house to another empty space. Cool, isn't it?Thirdly, the Rubber Tapping, Top Spinning and Martial Arts.Rubber tapping was indeed very interesting. Before this trip, the thing that came into my mind was just simply: 1. Using an equipment to cut a line on the tree bark without any pattern. 2. Put a bucket there and wait for it to be filled with latex. 3. Bring the bucket to a factory or to whoever knows how to turn it into rubber. 4. Done! It was so different from my thoughts. Well, the first one itself was already wrong. There is a pattern in doing this! From the top left to the bottom right. That's what the tour guide told us. Frankly speaking, I've long forgotten what the equipment is called... the second one was quite right, except they have to wait for 3 hours. The third step is the silliest thought I've ever thought of. Well, they do use machines, but we have to operate the machines manually, which is a lot of hard work to squeeze out all the water. Reminds me of tofu, during one of the steps. Then reminds me of Zhen Hui stuffing all the tofu into his mouth! During the first day of Melaka trip, during lunch. Top Spinning is very engaging. There was a miniature competition between the father and son, who were showing us how to play a top. They were very nice though, from the look on their face. They insisted that some of our classmates try playing the top. But few of them succeeded though. I didn't try, mainly because I wasn't interested in trying. Only viewing. Then they sold tops so the few who tried bought the top for practicing. Unfortunately, dear Mrs Chiam didn't allow them to play/practice the top in the hotel rooms, so boo-hoo. But overall, we did have fun, those who viewed and those who tried. The Malay kind of Martial Arts, is actually very different from Martial Arts itself. That's because the music is made from musical instruments, which people would have to play. Unlike Martial Arts now, it's actually played from a CD. They learn this kind of martial arts to build their body, I think. I'm not too sure either. It's surprisingly not violent at all, and according to the tour guide, not like taekwondo*. The tour guide pulled some students, a mixture of girls and boys, to learn some of the basics from one of the people. Only some leg movement and mainly hand movement. All of us hid behind so that the chance of us being called is lower. I remembered that Yi Xuan, Wei Hock, Gerald and Ee Sim were pulled out. I couldn't remember the rest. We laughed and them though. Every one of us.Fourthly, the School Visiting. We went to a school that, according to the tour guide, is something like a SAP school, except it's more Malayish. Some of the teachers there could speak English, so it's not that difficult to understand. Mrs Chor did say some Malay greetings though. Luckily, she did translate it back to English so we could understand. They did some performances for us. Their school, unlike ours, teaches from kindergarten to Primary 6, I think. The Seniors did a performance and so did the young ones, who looked so cute! So innocent-looking... We also exchanged gifts, both the schools and students. But it was sort of rush, because we ended up throwing all our souvenirs into a plastic bag and so did they. But theirs' were neater. All memos. Ours were a mixture. For example, LiXin's one. Hers is handmade. Cool. Sadly, on that day, it was drizzling, so we could not play the outdoor games they had planned for us sincerely. Instead, we went for a break and later to our respective areas to take part in the indoor activities. Ours was once again Top Spinning. I have to admit, the instructor/demonstrater was indeed hot-tempered. When his top went wiggly or flew down the table, he would fly into this rage, and say some words, Malay of course. Some of the students from that school came to watch too. He requested Ke Ying, Sing Wei, Sylvia, Gerald, Xin Ze and Kwan Yang to join him, one after another. Not to mention some of the Malay students.Last but not least, the meals and etc. I actually liked my table grouping. That's because we all had fun joking, laughing and playing poker cards. Especially on the first meal, that's because of Zhen Hui. We insisted that he ate finish everything, otherwise we cannot go home, by orders of Mrs Chiam. At first he didn't believe us, but we told him that if he ate etc. servings of etc., he will grow 1 pack. As they say guys have 6packs. Sorry, but I don't know how to spell it. So he carried on munching, or should I say gobbling. The following days were not as bad, except for dinner. We were separated though. However, I enjoyed dinner too, because I get to sit with all my friends. (all girls) The tour guides that lead us round, especially Mr Roger, taught us many things and those processes that we didn't even know. It's really engaging, this trip. The shopping part was the best. I get to buy gifts for my family and friends. Sadly, I have regrets. Regrets for not bringing enough money, and not enough time. We went to A Famosa too, but we didn't swim. Heard that the swimming pool is very dirty too, so no regrets for that. I feel really sad for the people behind me, especially Gisella, when we get to carved our names on the wood-like pencils for 2 for 5RM. We had not enough time, thus resulting in the fact that they couldn't carve. I was the last one. Mrs Chiam made some for her children. I made 2 for my parents. They thought that the keychain was brilliant. However, I didn't buy for some of my friends... That can be counted as another regret, I suppose so. Although they were many scenic places, there were also many happenings like the confiscating of the poker cards and the bedtime rule. In bed by 10pm. Apparently the whole class isn't that obedient, so most of us slept later. I shan't mention who then, but all I want to add in lastly is on the overall, this trip was certainly wonderful. Or should I say no words can be used to describe this feeling. If there was another same kind of trip, I would gladly participate, this time bringing more money and requesting for more time. Haha. =PVivian=P

In Malacca,it was my first time to interact with Batik painting.Even though, it looks easy,it is very hard to do it as one wrong dot,it can spoilt the painting but I liked it very much as it is fun.At there, I noticed that their way of living is very different from us but even still they are very happy with what they have. From them I learnt to be happy with what I have as there are a lot of people that are less fortunate than us. During the trip,we went to a school. The students in the school were all very friendly. When we enter the school,we were greeted by their smiles and their hand shakes. When I enter the school,I felt very welcome as if I known them for years.Although,it is just a 2-day,1-night trip, but I learnt a lot of things.:)lin yi

Hi! I find the malacca trip very educational and fun! However, two days one night was far too short! We could have visted more tourist attractions. We went for batik paintings which i thought was very fun.We watch a top-spinning performance and we were shown how to do the silat. We were brought to see how rubber tapping was done and we helped to squeeze the water out of the "harden" latex. On our visit to the school, even though many of the outdoor activities were cancelled due to the rain, the top-spinning performance was great(though not as great as the father and son of the kampong.)If i was given a chance to go to malacca again,i would definitely go!!!!!!

It's my turn to do my reflection!
2 days... 1 night in
malacca... can be boring. Okay, let's put it this way...
2 days 1 night+ Boisterous 6Responsibility = Trouble + Angry Mrs
Chiam!
Okay i was kidding about that. Let's cancel that out.
2 days 1 night+ Boisterous 6Responsibility = Fun + Nostalgic Memories!I ♥ Malacca trip! When I leave
Hong Wen, the probable most unforgettable memory will be Malacca `08! Partly it is our first and probably last outing as a class overseas. On the first day, we went hiking. At the street side stalls, we were super-glued to the various
souvenirs. I learnt that Melaka/ Malacca was under the Malacca Sultanate's control ( 15th century). After which, it was under the Portuguese's Control(24/08/1511). The Dutch took over some time later.( 14th January 1641) British took over the control on 17th March 1824. It was taken over by the Japanese frome the 1942 to the 1946. After much struggle, the malaysians took back what was their's.(1948)
I also learnt that Malacca was formally known as Melaka. Melaka, to me sounds more traditional as compared to Malacca. The historical statues were very
historical unique. The tour guide was indeed approachable!
I still remember vividly what happened at lunch that day. The waitress, wanted to conserve space/make way for the next dish so she attempted to put both the egg and the sweet and sour fish on the same plate. During the attempt, the lettuce below the egg landed on the table. Everyone was like o.O. Yu Xuan's expression was very... unforgettable. He was so shocked that he nearly jumped out of the chair. Not literally though. His mouth was opened so wide. His eyes widened with shock. After a short awkward pause, lixin said" Did you see what I saw?" We replied "yes" before bursting into laughter!
haha. Afterwhich, as mentioned in zhen hui's post, he
offered to eat all the
papaya, prawn, chicken and vegetables. I am not sure whether you have been observing our laughter at the restaurant but I could feel someone glaring at us.
The short yet meaningful tour at kampong indah was interesting. I learnt that the Sarong could be used in many different ways. I related that to their borderless creativity. I also realised that kampong indah's way of life/lifestyle was the exact opposite of singapore's. Let's put it this way. Take Kampong Indah as a snail. Singapore as a cheetah. Kampong Indah's way of life/life style is very slow and serene. Singapore's way of life/ lifestyle is very fast moving. However, no matter at what speed, we will still reach the mark.
Ketupat casing was something interesting about the tour. Although I have yet to master the art of ketupat casing, it was indeed an experience. The rubber tapping is very unexpected. I didn't expect the process of making rubber to be so complicated. Top spinning is a common favourite past time amongst children
The batik painting was fun and messy. Fun because we get to come up with our color schemes. I, for one, not very experienced in mixing colours, had trouble. Messy because the paint itself made me look like a
multi-coloured freak. Luckily, it could be washed away.
The second day was overall great. Despite the late morning call of course! (: Due to the fact that it was raining, the school entertained as. They probably anticipated a rain and prepared a performance. I was disappointed as I could not get a chance to enjoy the activities planned.
Destination Malacca- The historical city, was a fun, tiring, educational and most of all unforgetable trip. Although it is officially over, the enviroment, friendship developed and memories will be unforgetable! (:

During this trip i learnt plenty things like how kampong life is lived and the history of malacca. During the kampong visit,i enjoyed the batik painting most. During one of the school talks, it was mentioned that we would be doing batik painting. Little did I realised that it was true! Of the city visit, i enjoyed visiting st Paul Church. It is good to know how it was used in the past. For lunch that day, I was very full after having a boisterous meal with my other classmates at the table. I offered to eat all of the payaya, chicken, prawn and vegetables. Zhen Hui. GISELLA HELPED MY WITH MY LOUSY GRAMMAR FOR THIS POST.

I
♥ the trip =D As to me, it was a memorable and fruitful trip.1st Day:We went to a city tour where we visited the Saint Paul's Church. It was an extraordinarily beautiful and the people were really friendly too!I was especially fascinated by the tombstones we saw as they were really ancient. XDNext, we went to Kampong Indah where we did batik painting, which i enjoyed as it was my very first time doing it.Chinese have chinese paintings and similarly, malays have batik paintings!=D We then went to watch a traditional malay dance, rubber tapping and some exciting top spinning before going to the village. Upon seeing the people(especially kids) there, I was so envious of their relaxed and carefree lives, very unlike us singaporeans, who seem to always be busy.2nd Day:Due to the rain, activities we were supposed to have at the school at Yong Peng were cancelled. Nevertheless, one thing that was truely memorable was the fact that all the students, no matter upper or lower primary, were very VERY friendly and enthusiastic. At the school, i really felt welcomed. We left the school early, had our lunch, went to buy some local snacks and headed back home. Though the trip was short and time seemed to pass really fast, I had a whale of a time. =DSylvia

On this Malacca trip, I had my mom tag along with me( she wanted to do so, not me) which spoiled most of the fun out of this trip. I was amazed at how old a few structures were, like some of the stairs, yet they didn't break. This trip had a lot of educational experiences and if I could go to another trip to another Malaysian city, I would definitely go.- Ambrose

After the Malacca trip, I learnt that Singapore is really very different from Malacca. Singapore is always so fast-moving, surrounded by tall buildings and very modern. Unlike Malacca, which is slow, peaceful, filled with agricultual and such. People there are very friendly, hospitable and filled with warmth. They made us feel like we are one of them and are more than welcomed to. The kampong in Malacca felt like the olden days of Singapore, with chickens, poultry, crops. It has many different types of plants. They are also very creative, using tyres to be made as flower pots. A warm smile from a boy in the Kampong touched many of my friends' and myself's heart. We learnt how to make rubber sheets and saw how rubber tapping was processed. I also see that top-spinning is a favourite past time of the Malacca children, even adults. Some fun facts that we learnt about the term, "Moving House" which they did literally. We also saw how different types of Sarong could be worn and some facts of Malay Wedding. Batik Painting was also one of the most enjoyable activity that we did. Mixing and matching the colours was not my forte but I had a great time doing it. Pupils in the Malay School were cute as they waved to us when we alighted from our bus. The performances they put up was put in with great effort, I could see. Once again, the teachers, pupils and principal there were hospitable. Due to the rain, many outdoor activities were cancelled, to my disappointment. We also learnt more about the Malacca history when we went to the Christ Church and as we went up the hill. In all, Malacca fascinated me and all my friends and we hope to visit it again. Another thing that made us want to go there again was indeed the fact that we could chew bubble gums all we could there! =)Malacca- The Historical City XD Si Ying

There's this pumpkin there. I don't know why. But i find it rather cute. lol. the two guys in yellow are showing us a traditional malay dance... it consists of a little bit of fighting. but that's their culture... it's interesting.
the ketupat casing we learnt to make from a lady in a Malay Traditional House. Of course, this wasn't made by me. haha. The lady made it. For me. lols.
There's still quite a number of photos I haven't upload... but they features what Gisella has uploaded. Now it's your turn to comment and upload! (:
